| As my sister would call them, here are my "jambo notes." While they may not be day-by-day, or as detailed as hers they are mine. But mine are better anyways because who wants to know about the actual goings on when you can hear about rule breaking...
Overall the jamboree was good. I had a really good time. I always think the best parts of jamborees, campouts or activities that we do with other people besides our crew are best because of the people we meet. Needless to say that female youth staff was not exactly accepted by all that were there, and we had a few problems with bathrooms and showers, it eventually got worked out. Then there was the scoutmaster that chose to yell at us one night, harass and chastize anyone in a green uniform the next morning, and get sent home. The girls in the tent were great. I like them all. The boys I met were great too. All really nice guys. The best part of the time I have to say was the cute army boys (not just the cute medic). There were some very nice looking MPs, and 1 cute army medic (out of 2. I will explain later). I do know that some things that happened made the news, and I don't know what to tell you. There were some serious lagistical problems, but that happens when you put up a city of 42,000 in a day, have it up for a week, and take it down in a day. The major problems were weather and water. It was hot and humid (It was even hot for me.) I am talkin 100 degrees and humidity so high that the heat index is 110-120 degrees during the day. The other problem is that the boys that were there didn't drink enough water. They should have been drinking at least 2 nalgenes (32oz a piece) between meals- if not 3, and they weren't. They may have been drinking 1, but that is a stretch for some of them. Other than that the other problems were just lines for staff registration that were 2.5 hours long, and not having proper facilities for all the staff in every camp (i.e. no bathrooms or shower for the youth female staff in the Thomas Rd. Staff Camp).
Now for the good stuff (at least the begining of it). Being at a Boy Scout camp there were certain rules we had to follow; no tank tops, no short shorts, no being in a tent of the opposite sex, no pda, no fratranizing, 2 deep leadership (i.e. a girl and guy shouldn't walk alone together- always girl, girl, guy or guy, guy, girl when walking), pee and shower buddies (i.e. take someone with you when you go to the bathroom or shower), 1030pm starts quiet hours, 11pm cerfew (sometimes 1130pm). I think that was it, well at least the major ones. Lets just say that I broke just about everyone of those. All except the no tank tops, and no short shorts- those I didn't break.
That is all for tonight. My hands are tired. I will write more in the coming days. |
